Word of 2016

2015 was a year of learning and starting new things. From dreaming up The Bible Binder® and starting a new business from the ground up, to buying land to build a new house… This year was challenging and rewarding. God threw things at me that made me rethink my priorities and goals. Once I decided to go forward with TBB® idea, I knew I had to sit a few other things on the shelf.

The time I had used for blogging and other hobbies had to be used to build websites, design products, and answer emails. I knew God would see me through, so I went for it. Although my time has been used in different ways, I have learned more about myself and what I want for my (and my family’s) future. My word for last year was PURPOSE. I believe I found it in launching The Bible Binder® by helping women organize their lives around what matters most. I always knew my marriage, motherhood, and leading worship were my main purposes, but I never felt my creative side was fulfilling all God had planned. Going through this 2015 “purpose” journey, my type-a personality began to wear me down. I have always been one to push myself to reach any goal, but it is a double edged sword. Instead of pushing myself to follow God’s plan and reaching those goals, my actions tend to cross the line into chasing perfect. That’s where my word for 2016 comes in… IMPERFECTION. (As well as Lara Casey’s #powersheets to keep me on track!)

I put unnecessary stress on myself. I always have. My unofficial motto is “If you’re going to do it, then you might as well do it right.” My mindset is if I am going to take the time to do or make something, I should strive to be the best at it. This personality trait puts me on the trajectory of perfectionistic every time. This year is going to be different. I cannot do ALL THE THINGS. I have to prioritize my goals and focus on what matters most. What is most reflecting of what God wants? That is what 2016 will be about. As I keep repeating “I am not perfect. I am not perfect. I am not perfect.”

Lara Casey and her sweet shop ladies sent me the #powersheets workbook (They are sold out of the workbook, but follow the link to view the sets that would fit perfectly in The Bible Binder®!) and I am loving it so far! It is making me think hard about what I want out of life and what I need to put my time and energy into. Many times we think we know what we want, but when we sit down to think about making what matters happen, we can’t quite put our fingers on it. Well, Lara Casey’s #powersheets and goal setting series will definitely help you get the ball rolling!

What’s super helpful are Lara’s Periscope videos (all saved here! www.katch.me/laracasey)! If you get stuck or aren’t sure how to answer something as you are going through your pages, Lara shares her insight and how she is filling out her #powersheets for 2016! So awesome!

I am almost finished with “Winter” section (prep part) of my workbook and already feel more focused. You can follow my journey on Instagram (pictures above and below via IG) or many behind the scenes info…the good, the bad the ugly haha…on Snapchat: preppyjess! (video above via Snapchat)
