Layers are my among my favorite to style. So many options to work with. So many patterns and textures to mix and match. This got me thinking about people. We as people have so many beautiful layers to peel back, but we often just share the calloused and thick outer layer that’s been scarred by our past experiences. Everything happening in our great nation has seemed to polarize everything around me…from social media (I mean, can we just go back to pictures of what people ate for lunch?) to casual meetings in line at the grocery store looking at the magazines (Are celebrities now politicians or politicians now celebrities? I can’t tell the difference.). We live in a culture of opinions, entitlements, and offensiveness. Time and time again we listen to respond instead of actually hearing what the person speaking to us is trying to say. If we could just peel back some of our layers –beyond the noise and the harsh outer coverings– to show the Republican/Democrat/woman/man/child next to us that we are still as
American human as they are… Well, it might look a little different out there.
Luke 6:45 says, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart, for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Whether you’re a believer or not, it’s hard to argue the truth this passage of scripture contains. What comes out of our mouths reveals what is truly in our hearts. And if this is true, then based on the rhetoric that is being spoken on all sides, it is safe to say America has a serious heart problem. -Kevin Aldridge, “It’s Not Trump, It’s Us”
