About The Preppy Christian
Welcome to The Preppy Christian where I meet style with faith! After my son was born in November of 2011 I was faced with a closet of clothes that just didn’t fit right. As I started browsing for new pieces, and as a new life as a family of 3 began, I started documenting the journey here. It has evolved just like I have in my faith, motherhood, marriage, and eating habits! This is a place where you will find mainly modest fashion inspiration, but also other life+style tidbits along the way.
Hey there, I’m Jessica, aka The Preppy Christian. I am a teacher by day, blogger by evening, and worship leader every Sunday morning.
Born, raised, lives: St. Louis, MO
Marital status: Seven years of marital bliss to my amazing hubby, Chris! He is my “Instagram Husband“. lol
Mom status: Five years of motherhood
bliss realness. No one ever gives you a book on how to be a great parent. Luckily I have Chris whom I call “Mr. Mom” there leading way. He is five years older than me…and I really do believe it when they say “older is wiser”. Rypken is our son and he is such a spunky and sweet little guy. He brightens each day and challenges us too. We wouldn’t have any other way!
Pets: A seven year old Weimaraner named Tallulah.
Favorite date night: more pricey– Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse (the stuffed chicken is amazing), low key– McDonald’s sweet tea and the driving range
- spring: Lilly Pulitzer “Elsa” + white or colored jeans + flats/wedges
- summer: shift dress + sandals
- fall: sweater + skirt + boots
- winter: layers (oxford + sweater + vest) + jeans + boots
Favorite snack: rice cake or apple slices & peanut butter (I struggle with migraines and IBS, so I did a blood test that ranked what food chemicals my body reacts negatively to. I will continue to blog about this, but you can read the initial post here. *I have since lost 30lbs!?*)
Favorite quick-prep dinner: Ground turkey from Whole Foods (so fresh and yummy!) with a little almond meal thrown in and chopped sweet potatoes in olive oil with organic cinnamon and sugar. Super quick and super delicious, especially if you like the savory+sweet combo!
Favorite worship song: “Ever Be” Aaron Shust
Favorite Bible verse: I struggle with anxiety at times, so Philippians 4:6-7 has helped me more than once:
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
What’s in my makeup bag: I wrote all about it in my Makeup Routine post here! I even have a live video!
Photography: I use a Canon T4i camera with a 50mm lens to shoot blog posts myself. Recently I have been lucky enough to work with Bella Luxe Photography, Tara Nicole Photography, and Rose Gold Photography the past year. All photos not taken by my “Instagram Husband” are linked.
