2017 Highlights

As I reflect back on by One Little Word {OLW} for 2017, contentment, I believe I made a lot of improvement in that category. As I focused more on what mattered most, God continued blessing me with more than I deserve. This year, I will keep with that theme and draw from what I have learned.  My OLW for 2018 is SIMPLIFY.  My hubby and I have made small steps that are starting to grow into very large leaps in our budget. We’ve downsized our car, etc…planning to be debt free in around two years!  I have already stopped Snapchatting. I know that sounds silly, but the less social media apps, the better. I am cleaning out my closet this weekend.  I am only saying yes to projects that fire me up. Basically, if it isn’t meaningful why am I spending money and precious time doing it? Here’s to a 2018 that is Simplified and Sweet!

2017 was such an adventurous year! Here are the highlights:

Being a teacher, travel isn’t a luxury we tend to be able to have. We only get around 10 days each school year to take off *including sick days*…so it’s very hard to be able to jet set like you see most of your favorite bloggers doing. Luckily, I’m an only child (some might also say spoiled) haha…so my dad takes me along sometimes on his work obligations. My mom joined along on this one, too! We made it a fun girls getaway when we dropped him off in Austin and I drove us to Waco to see Chip and Joanna from Fixer Upper! You can see the full blog post and vlog HERE! We had some exciting news in the school categories this year! Rypken graduated from Pre-K! Yay! He did so good. He registered for Kindergarten, as well and we were told out of hundreds of kiddos, he was top 5 in the grade! #proudmom I took a test, also. I had been feeling led to teach older students around the high school age for a while. To do that, you need to take a test…a very difficult, multiple hour test in order to get the proper certification. I had originally only been certified to teach K-6th and have been teaching 5th grade for the past 10 years. Well, I passed my test last May and received the proper certification! I am now certified K-12!?!?!? Yay! My test was for Social Studies at the secondary level. Now, I follow God’s lead into the next chapter of my teaching career.

It truly is the most magical place on Earth. Chris and I went on our honeymoon, but nothing compares to taking going with your own child! Disney World was definitely a top memory this year! Especially spending it with family…and on my birthday! haha! 🙂 What a special time! You can read the full blog post and watch the vlog HERE!

The Great American Eclipse went right over us on August 21st! It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Schools closed, people were camped out, and it seemed as if everyone stopped finally slowed down a little to appreciate God’s creation. It was spectacular! This wasn’t just a 2017 highlight, it was a life highlight. I have always wanted to go to NYC! My dad had another job and at the last minute he surprised me with a quick trip! We squeezed in as much as we could and I wouldn’t have changed a thing! We even scored HAMILTON tickets! I’m telling you, so.much.fun. And no, you can’t steal my dad! // MY LOVE //

Here’s to the late nights on the couch. Our favorite shows. You being Mr. Mom while I’m at worship practice each week and obviously traveling with my dad this year…dang. You remembering literally everything. (maybe there is something to those lists you make) IG Hubby of the year! Loving me all this last DECADE at my best and of course, at my worst. You are the best daddy and husband I could’ve ever dreamt of. God knew what he was doing when we went on that blind date in 2007. I definitely married UP! xoxo

I appreciate each an every one of you that follow along this tiny space on the internet! Here’s to health and happiness in 2018! God bless!
